If you move to live here full-time the local culture will soon slow you down to the sort of pace where you establish a routine of favourite pastimes. Actually the choice of diversions is quite remarkable and well worth keeping up to date with for when friends and family come and visit you – as they surely will.
Locally around Torrevieja you can take a 4x4 tour through the hills, play bowls or go tenpin bowling, try go-karting, ride horses, go sailing, hit the tennis court, or work out at the gym. English language films are regularly shown, and there is no shortage of evening entertainment and discos.
The sea and coast are a great natural resource and Torrevieja and Alicante have two of the biggest Yacht Marinas along the entire coastline. Sailing is big around these parts, although if you want to get under the water scuba is popular.
Terra Mitica
Head north for the tourist town of Benidorm (well worth a visit and nowhere near as down market as the travel programmes would suggest!) and among the water parks and other attractions Terra Mitica stands out as a ‘must see’.
The equal of any of Europe’s theme parks the space is divided into five mythical representations of Mediterranean culture – Rome, Egypt, Greece, Spain and the Islands.
There are some truly spectacular rides including the Magnus Colossus, a roller coaster that generate forces of around 2G, the 54m free-fall Flight of the Phoenix, and Synkope – a massive wheel that rotates at 90 km/hour with you sitting on the outside!
