Fiestas and markets
Nowhere does the local colour of Spain sing more vibrantly than at fiesta time – Spain is still passionately a Catholic country and throughout the year various Saints' days are celebrated as well as the major Christian festivals – Easter, known as Semana Santa, being the most important.
Of course history plays a large part in all the pageantry, and the legacy of the longstanding Arab influence in the area adds colour and excitement in the various ‘Moors and Christians’ fiestas held at differing times throughout the region.
The local village markets are still a fundamental part of Spanish culture and throughout the length and breadth of the Costa Blanca you never have a choice of less than five villages to visit on any day of the week you choose, including Sunday.
Colourful seasonal produce makes for great food shopping when everything is at its best – all very healthy. You’ll also be able to pick up all sorts of knick-knacks and bargains, especially in local products like leather goods and pottery.
Come on a Spain on Show Viewing Trip and we’ll make sure you get to look at least one market. If you come during a fiesta we’ll try and show you that too.
