While the design, style and variety of property in the Southern Costa Blanca is enormous, essentially the decision comes down to buying an apartment, a town house or a villa. Factors concerning your specific choice will most likely involve how much you want to spend, and the sort of location you want to live in.
As with the UK you end up getting what you pay for. If you expect to be on the beach, or overlooking the 10th fairway of one of the gold courses, expect to pay top dollar. The general rule is that as you go away from the coast you get more for your money – it often works out that you pay less for the property which means you can afford your own pool.
Most people choose to live on one of the many well-designed 'urbanisations' – a community of mixed dwellings that often share common facilities. Here apartments and smaller townhouses for example will often share a pool, there will be communal tennis and shops, and often on the larger developments a health club, medical centre, etc. It's all very neighbourly and you soon get to meet a load of people just like you.
When you're looking make sure you consider the outdoor space – don’t forget that for most of the year you’ll want to sit outside on the balcony or terrace and eat off the barbeque. Even at Christmas, most years it's warm enough to eat dinner outside.

A typical apartment may be a simple one bedroom holiday home or as luxurious as a three bedroom penthouse.
Townhouses usually have two or three bedrooms, often en suite, a small front garden and a reasonable back garden.
The average villa has at least two bedrooms and space for your own swimming pool, but can be much bigger.
